Labor Day Weekend

I am sitting in the kitchen with all of the windows open in the house trying to remember a Labor Day weekend in Iowa with better weather. It is beautiful!

Kurt made it home from Portland, OR Thursday evening and worked on Friday. Friday night we enjoyed a dinner out then Kurt and Adam shared their favorite task, mowing the yard. Saturday morning the three of us got up, hit the grocery store, Starbucks with our gift cards, and the "Old" McDonald's (Adam's name for it) drive-through. Lake Red Rock here we come! We spent a glorious day sailing with Dad, his brother Bob, and Molly. After our sail we went to where Bob and Molly had parked their camper to grill out. The pork and sweet corn were the perfect treat on a perfect day! After playing a bit we decided that our coach was turning into a pumpkin and Dad, Bob, and Molly deserved some peace so we headed home. I hope to get some pictures from Molly of the great day. Here is a video of Adam being Adam.

Sunday morning we met Matthew, his cousin, Angela from mock trial, and her 2 children at Centro for brunch. After some rousing discussion of the last 7 seconds of the UNI Iowa game from Saturday we had a great meal and a lot of fun. If you missed the last 7 seconds they are worth tracking down to see. Post brunch we hit Sears to scope out appliances then headed to Brooks Brothers at Jordan Creek. Kurt's dress shirts were on 30%-70% off racks. He picked up 3 at 70% off. Nice to get no-iron shirts for $17! Trip and Andy met us at Scheels to wander around for a bit. Adam took Andy to the playground in the mall. What a zoo that place is. Trip found a fall jacket and Kurt found a light, waterproof jacket. After last week's wet Jimmy Buffett concert he decided it would be a wise investment. We had dinner at Granite City then went and played at Grandma and Grandpa's house for awhile.

With no nap yesterday we put Adam to bed looking for a great night's sleep. Instead he woke us up at 4:30 this morning. Kurt marched him back to bed only to have him in the bathroom at 5:15. Again, Kurt marched him back to bed. Evidently Kurt gave up and went to the family room couch. At 6:00 Adam came in with his blankents and "friends" and was drumming on the side of the bed until I spoke to him. He ended up crawling up in bed with his friends and sat there while I tried to sleep. At some point he told me he was going to see if Daddy wanted to rest with us. He went downstairs and I managed to go back to sleep for awhile. Kurt dozed on the couch while Adam watched tv and played. This was a first for this kid and hopefully the last! I know, funny haha.

Today Kurt is working and Adam and I are having a nice day at home. Pretty soon it will be lunch and a nap.
