For our 10th wedding anniversary Kurt and I had originally planned on taking a vacation without the kids. Well, Kurt spent the first quarter of 2013 traveling a lot so we decided to celebrate as a family. For the first time that we can remember we vacationed with no planned visits to family or friends and Kurt was not going some place for work! Our destination: Great Wolf Lodge in the Wisconsin Dells.
We got a deal on Facebook so we decided to get the Kid Cabin Suite. The boys had bunk beds and their own TV in their cabin. They only turned on the tv once, but they still thought it was pretty cool that they had their own. Adam slept in the top bunk and Grant on the bottom. Adam was a good big brother and let Grant visit him in the top bunk.
We arrived at the Lodge in time to check in and have about 2 hours at the waterpark before bed on Wednesday night. Adam and I tried out several slides, including The Tornado. It is the biggest, fastest slide at the Lodge. We went once which was enough for me. He would have gone on it everyday if I would have joined him. The rafts require 2 people so he couldn't go alone. Maybe next time. We missed an entire room of water park fun the first night. It ended up being our favorite room the next day.
Thursday morning we started the day across the street at Duncan Donuts. Since Ankeny doesn't have one (yet! It is under construction) it was an extra special treat.
After breakfast we did the wolf walk in the Grand Lobby. The clock is very cool.

The wave pool! This is the room we missed the first night. It has the wave pool, some great slides, and Grant's favorite little kid area. He loved to squirt Daddy with the jet ski.
Adam loved the water park, but he loved MagiQuest more. He and Grant each got a wand, but Adam actually got to play the game. He was given a quest book and he had to make his way up and down 4 stories gathering items for the quest to earn runes. Once he earned his runes he was able to fight a goblin and the dragon. It was so fun for the kids and a great way to get some exercise.
Thursday night we got ready for bed in time for storytime at the big clock.

My mom and dad started a tradition of cookies and milk before bed with Adam about the time he was allowed to have solid food. We still carry on the tradition for special occasions. Vacation is the perfect special occasion.
Our room was so cool! We had a fridge, microwave, fireplace, couch, and a table in addition to the sleeping areas.
Friday was our anniversary. We went out to dinner at the Riverwalk Pub. We sat outside with a view of the river. Fun spot to visit if you ever go to the Dells.

Thanks to monoprice.com I have a remote for my new camera. It is perfect so we can take multiple shots of our family without me running back and forth to set the timer on the camera. I just need to find a decent, compact tripod now and maybe we could have properly aimed family pictures. The camera was on the mantel for this one and we had to guess if it was aimed at us. Not too bad if I do say so myself.
We debated a few different options for our vacation before we settled on this one. We are so glad that this was the winner. The weather was cool and rainy most of the trip so any outdoor adventures would have been miserable. This was the best of all worlds and the perfect way to celebrate 10 years.
